I am looking for solid facts. Also, what business types benefit the most and are there any that don’t get that much out of referrals? What are some good places to look for statistics? Thanks for the help everyone!

I don’t have any solid facts on paper that prove my opinion through empirical means, however, from years of experience I can tell you that most business would not survive without referrals that establish a solid/loyal customer base.

Hi, perhaps you can try Google adwords to market your service/product.
Google adwords is a text-based system for advertising on its site and its partner sites. The service allows you to create your own ads, choose keywords to help match your ads to your audience, and control the cost of your advertising—you pay only when people click on your ad (a cost per click plan). Anyone wishing to promote a product on Google can enroll in this program.

There are no solid facts. It is near impossible to measure with any accuracy the impact of product referral. Of course different types of business have different rates of product referrals. If you are in the movie or book business, a lot of people will create buzz about your productions, however if you sell bathroom paper don’t expect much word of mouth advertising.
A lot of companies may claim to have the rates but they really can’t measure it that well.
